How GoldBoba checks its listings

GoldBoba lists boba, bubble tea, milk tea, matcha and fruit tea shops in New York City. Nobody pays to be listed, and nobody can pay to change where they appear.

Where the listings come from

Every shop starts as a record in the city's restaurant inspection data, which covers every food business holding an active permit. That gives us the registered address, phone number, map coordinates and the latest health grade. We then match each record to the shop's own website, menu and social accounts to confirm what it sells.

Two permits at the same address for the same shop are merged into one listing. Places that matched a search for "tea" but don't serve tea drinks, such as restaurants with tea in their name, are left out.

What "not yet confirmed" means

Of the 355 shops in the directory, 286 have been matched to an official website, menu or listing. The rest hold a valid city permit, but we couldn't confirm their menu online. Their pages carry a notice and aren't submitted to search engines until we confirm them.

Health grades

Letter grades come from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. A is the best score. "Pending" means the shop was inspected and is waiting on a final grade or a reinspection. We show the date of the most recent inspection we have; the city's own lookup is always the latest word.

What we don't have yet

Opening hours and prices aren't in the directory yet, because we only publish them once a shop or its official menu confirms them. If you run a shop, send us your hours and we'll add them.
